COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES (CDS) EXAMINATIONS

 One of the ways to join Indian armed forces as an Officer is through COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES (CDS) EXAMINATION which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission of India (UPSC) AND schedule twice a year. The UPSC usually releases the notification for combined defence services (CDS) examinations every year in the month of October and June and the exams are conducted in the month of February and July, respectively. Both Males and female candidates are eligible to sit in the exam.All the candidates who will clear the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examinations will be sent to the respective Defence Academies after the passing the series of interviews conducted by the Service Selection Board.

  

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES EXAMINATION

 Nationality

A candidate must have unmarried marital status and must have one of the following points mentioned below

·         An Indian citizen

·         A Tibetan refugee settled in Indian before 1962

·         A subject of Bhutan or Nepal

·         An Indian origin person migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and East African countries and intended to settle down permanently in India.

 EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

 ·         For IMA and OTA:  Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University or equivalent

·         For INA: A degree in Engineering from a recognised University or equivalent

·         For AFA: Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University (Physics and mathematics at 10+2 level is mandatory) or Degree in Engineering

 

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

Before applying for CDS examinations, a candidate must check the physical standards given in the notification.

Basic physical standards are:

·         There should be no Tattoos on the body

·         Candidate must be physically and mentally fit

·         Cases of hernia are prohibited

·         There should not be any hearing impairment

·         There should not be any case of active congenital venereal disease.
